May marked the first anniversary of Aurigny’s direct flights between Leeds Bradford and the island of Guernsey, bringing the Channel Islands second largest island within easier reach. If you have not visited Guernsey, it makes a great short break destination to relax in.
July saw Super Break announce a three night break flying directly to Northern Iceland next February. It has proven so popular that it sold out within three months of being placed on sale. On the basis of this performance, we are hoping for additional flights next winter!
Late September brought sad news with the demise of Monarch Airlines. Monarch had been operating as a based airline at Leeds Bradford since March 2013 and carried well over 1 million passengers in that time. These unfortunate circumstances presented us with a challenge as to how to ensure we have sufficient capacity for everyone wanting a holiday next year flying from Leeds Bradford.
We were delighted with an early announcement from TUI that they were increasing their programme with an additional two weekly flights to Dalaman and Malaga. Thomas Cook followed immediately on their heels saying that they would be basing a plane at Leeds Bradford for next summer flying 12 weekly departures. For a map of their destinations which includes restoration of flights to Tunisia, please click here.
Jet2.com also made a welcome announcement that they would be adding extra capacity this coming winter as well as next summer. This includes extra flights to their popular existing routes of Alicante, Corfu and Kos, giving increased options and availability to get away in Summer 2018. They have also very recently announced a major increase in capacity for winter 18/19. Find out more >
Compared with other Monarch served airports we have done well to secure this capacity but our advice is to book your holiday for next summer sooner, rather than later. There will be a reduction in summer capacity across most of the UK next summer, so a bit like musical chairs; you don’t want to be left without a brilliant holiday when the music stops!
