Mozart, the Sound of Music and the Müllner Bräu Brewery are among the many great things to be found in Salzburg.
Everywhere you walk in Salzburg you'll notice the intricate architecture and iconic buildings, perfectly complemented by the mountainous background.
Close to the border between Germany and Austria, Salzburg is a great destination for a city break. The Salzburg Museum gives a great insight into the city's history, all within a classically baroque setting - something you're sure to see plenty of here.
For music fans, the Mozart Geburtshaus allows visitors to witness some of Mozart's very own instruments, as well as some of his hair! If you prefer a more relaxed way to enjoy Salzburg, head to the Augustiner Bräustübl (also known as the Müllner Bräu). Here you can unwind in the beer garden with a litre of beer from the brewery run by a monastery, admiring the chestnut trees as you go.
As well as a many museums, the Residenz palace and the Festung Hohensalzburg fortress, one of the most popular reasons people descend on Salzburg is the famous musical, the Sound of Music. You can even take a special tour to see such sites as the Mirabell Gardens from the classic "Do-Re-Mi" scene!
It may be time to slope off to the slopes. Salzburg’s surrounding mountains are perfect for skiers and hikers alike. And with a cable car station at Untersberg, there are outdoor options for those of us who just want the views to take our breath away.
If you're there for the festivities, enjoy a pretty Christmas market around Domplatz, a hearty goulash in the Old Town or tanker from the old monastic brewery.
