Known for its mild climate, picturesque landscape and smooth sea that is just waiting to be sailed upon, Pula's calming pace of life is a world away. Well, not literally - you could be there in just a few hours!
Look forward to relics of Roman past, indulge in water sports and sample the region's delicious wine.
Taking old traditions and subverting them in a typically Croatian way, one of the city's highlights is definitely Rojc. A converted army barracks, it now houses a multimedia art and music centre with a constant rotation of concerts, exhibitions and events. It may not look like much from the outside, but once indoors, creative inspiration isn't far away.
As the polar opposite, Pula's 1st -century amphitheatre is now nothing more than a shell, but still strikes an impressive authority against the skyline. Check out the weekly Spectacvla Antiqva during the summer for recreations of gladiator fights and roman dressmaking workshops, or stake out your seat at the Pula film festival, taking place every July.
